A Difficult Week in the Mission Field.
Well everyone, this was a tough tough tough week.Gus(Christina) that I talked about last week, my favorite investigator that I just LOVED... she and her boyfriend Marvin both agreed to baptism on Tuesday night! I was so excited to see them both clean up, get married, and be baptised!Three-Four hours after that lesson, Gus died of a massive heart attack. 24 years old. Her Aorta detached from her heart. Something that usually only comes from serious trauma or birth defect. I didn't know I could cry so much. I didn't know I could love somebody so much in just 4 weeks of knowing them. Her eyes told a story whenever I shook her hand. I could see her love for me and for her Savior, and when she said "Thank you" she meant it from every fiber of her being. The Lord blessed her life through us, but He blessed our life so much more by knowing her. I learned to love people, to be proud of people, to let go and accept the will of the Lord. Here is the amazing thing. It makes sense that this would happen at this time.I was meant to go teach her. She knew everything was true, and trusted me and Elder Barlow more than anyone... EVER. We knew her and she knew us. It was a bond and a connection that couldn't be possible with anyother person. We were meant to go teach her and prepare her. We met her the first day that Elder Barlow and I were together. We taught her and she progressed more and more each time. She felt the love of her Savior and her Heavenly Father. She knew she needed to be baptised, and the Lord kept her alive long enough to carry her baby into the world, and for her to understand that she needed to accept the gospel. He held her heart together. He brought us to her home, and he knew that we were the missionaries for her. She is now learning and progressing more. Marvin will progress into the gospel, and he will take her name to the temple and have her baptised. She is waiting for him to do her work. She knows IT IS TRUE, and knows what she must do. The Lord places people in our paths and makes it possible for his amazing purposes to roll forth.I'm so glad that I took the call to this mission as I did. If i didn't, who knows if she would have died with a knowledge of the truthfullness of the fullness of the Gospel of our Savior Jesus Christ. Now she does, and I'm glad that I was able to be a part of the Lord's perfect plans.Other than that this week. I went to Evel Knievel's Funeral! There were about 3000 people there(the viewing hours had much more) and it was impressive. The preacher said a line that made me just LAUGH AND LAUGH! I don't think he knew how it would sound. He said "THIS IS A DAY THAT GOD HAS SET APART! FOR EVEL!" and it just sounded histerical to me. But overall it was a good funeral. Matthew McConaughey was there and I got some tabloid quality shots of him:)Oh well! That is definately a story... Only two missionaries EVER! can say that they went to Evel Knievel's funeral on their mission! And i'm ONE OF THEM! BOOOOYAH!Alright everyone, have a great weekLove you all!~Elder Greenhalgh
